Temporary aquarium open
The Huntsman aquarium opened May 22 at 10 a.m. for another season - although this year it’s a little different!
Our star seals, Loki and Snorkel, are here, along with the rare lobsters, Big Dee-Dee, Old Blue, Lily and Fiona, and of course, the huge sturgeon.
But the old aquarium has been torn down, and now, there’s a whole new discovery centre being built. In the meantime, we have a temporary aquarium built, so you will be able to see all of the creatures, plus a few new additions, such as an amazing basket star. There is also a display highlighting our new discovery centre.
The touch pool is still a favourite, and is stocked with all kinds of creatures to look at, and take out of the water for closer inspection.
There’s new stock at the gift shop, too, with some cool new apparel and more interesting items on the way. The aquarium is open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with seal feedings at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Visitors from near and far have visited the aquarium to learn more about the marine life in Passamaquoddy Bay.
The aquarium opened in 1972, and still generates interest in children and adults eager to learn about the marine environment and experience it first hand.
There are displays of other fish, from the ancient and huge sturgeon to the interesting looking sea ravens.
There are frogs, salamanders, and one of the most recent additions to the family, the famous Big Dee-Dee the lobster, who found himself the centre of media attention in 2008 when the 22-pound (10 kg) crustacean found himself in a fish store in the middle of a tug of war between those who wanted to see him cooked, and those who clawed for him to be released.
As you leave, we have a gift shop, stocked with everything from souvenirs to marine life guide books.
We’re open from May 22 to September 19, you can find out exactly when HERE.
So pay us a visit, we can’t wait to sea you!! You can contact the aquarium at (506) 529-1202 or email us. |
